PICK YOUR POISON & BRING YOUR OWN VINYLPICK YOUR POISON & BRING YOUR OWN VINYL

So Successful We Had To Make It A Weekly Event!

From humble beginnings, this ultimate evening of quizzical & "dad – vinyl" mayhem has forged for itself a reputation as the best Sunday night in the northern quarter. Great tunes, a relaxed vibe and the acquisition of useless knowledge constitute the perfect weekend wind down.

Our in house mc Nick "the waistcoat" delivers the questions amidst a plethora of drink promotions (which you choose) and a deluge of your favourite songs, indeed why not bring your own vinyl? We love our records but we love yours too! Get down, spin your own tracks, win some beer & get over Saturday & forget about Monday.

Apotheca Flicks

In a time of cultural indifference, social and economic upheaval, where watching the news is akin to an episode of "terrorists say the funniest things" and to top it all there's bugger all on the big screen that doesn't include wizards, robots or jailbait vampires, two men dare to flip the bird to conventional film nights, now, more than ever we need quality escapism!

Every Tuesday evening starting at 7pm, two films back to back, from art house to grind house, whatever your penchant there's something to fill the cinematic void.

No "chick flicks" darken our doorstep, baby is always left in the corner, we have the most comfortable seating outside of a leading furniture store advertisement , free popcorn and of course drink promotions.

First come first comfy, give it a shot, your cinephile taste buds may just depend on it.

Brought to you by people who have watched far too many movies.

UPCOMING SHOWINGS

TUES 9TH MARCH – WOLF IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING NIGHT

An American Werewolf in London

American tourists head out on the moors, despite advice to the contrary by Brian Glover (always listen to Glover – he was in Kes for Pete's sake!). After being mauled and chewed by a werewolf, one of the tourists find himself morphing into one of the hairy blighters at regular impromptu opportunities. Check out Jenny Agutter in full nurse's regalia. Splendid.

Dog Soldiers

Squaddies versus werewolves...who'd win? Some stomach churning special effects and proper 'bad lads army' type dialogue. This film won't broaden your horizons or enlighten your soul...but it serves as an engaging, entertaining and quality piece of British escapism. Therefore, it wins out. How cna it not? Where else would a a squaddie lose a fist fight but win a frying pan fight (Reeves and Mortimer style) against a werewolf? Our point exactly.

Tues 16th March -‘Where Do We Go From Here?’ Night.

Garden State –Dir. Zach Braff – Cert: 15

Written by, directed by and starring that neurotic bellend from ‘Scrubs’, with less whiney narration, more “who am I?” philosophising....and Natalie Portman in a swimsuit. Bonus yah. Along with a soundtrack featuring Simon & Garfunkel, Nick Drake, Zero 7 and Coldplay (You can’t have it all I suppose)...this flick is quality navel-gazing fayre.

Lost In Translation – Dir. Sofia Coppolla – Cert: 15

Opening with a shot of Scarlett Johanssen’s arse, which is surprisingly not as good as it gets. Bill Murray in full-on hangdog / midlife crisis mode. Fence-sitting liberal types actually lambasted the film’s use of Japanese characters as blanket racism, but we’d prefer to merely point towards the way it’s nicely balanced with a karaoke set piece where Murray sings Bryan Ferry and Johanssen sings The Pretenders – so that’s all OK.

Tues 23rd March - ‘Turkey Shoot’ Night

Gigli – Dir. Martin Brest – Cert: 15

A movie that has made the Top 10 list of worst films every year after its release, Ben Affleck and J-LO (Don’t be fooled by the rocks that she’s got), play warring gangsters who are watching over a gangster’s son and...nothing else happens really. Will romance blossom? Who knows...better yet...who cares? As Lopez says as she stares a hole through Affleck with her cold dead eyes....”Gobble Gobble, it’s turkey time”.

ShowGirls – Dir. Paul Verhoeven – Cert: 18

The director of Robocop, Total Recall and Starship Troopers employs his sci-fi credentials to take on the world of the erotic thriller with a hint of musicality. Includes some lass from saved by the bell and a sex scene in a swimming pool that has to be scene, sorry seen, to be believed.

THE NEXT SHOWS HAVE YET TO BE DECIDED, SO IF THERE'S ANYTHING YOU WANT US TO SHOW, PLEASE HAVE A WORD IN OUR SHELL LIKE AND WE'LL DO OUR BEST TO FIT IT IN, JUST ASK FOR PETE
